Edwards Evaporation System

Principal Investigator: Dr. Paul Holloway
User Request Form

Used primarily for the deposition of extremely thin aluminum dots onto the surface of thin films. These aluminum dots are used as electrical contacts when the devices are being tested. The dots are deposited by heating up small quantities of aluminum in a vacuum to the point that the metal evaporates and coats everything inside the vacuum chamber. In order to achieve the “dot” needed, thin metal masks are placed over the samples, which only allow the aluminum to collect on the sample surface in small circles.
